One of the most eclectic and acclaimed bi-lingual Malaysian independent/underground artist of his generation, Azmyl is noted in popularizing alt-country, lo-fi folk, and singer-songwriter genres in Malaysia through relentless gigging, collaborations,and a prolific solo recording output since 1997 (eight solo albums and three EPs – including 2014’s Pedra Branca EP) and also with other bands. He is also known for his work with his touring band The Sigarettes and as a founding member of noise-rock band The Maharajah Commission, no wave band Ciplak, and punk band Ben’s Bitches. His new album titled Was Was as Azmyl Yunor & Orkes Padu (a collaboration with Orkes Padub and leader and producer Raje), was released in September 2015.He remains a cult figure who prefers to navigate along the outer margins of the music scene and work his craft on his own terms with a very distinctive singular vision and wit.
