UMa Dance Company was established in 2007 as a contemporary counterpart of KESUMA (Kumpulan Kesenian University Malaya), enabling University Malaya students, alumni and the faculty to explore choreography. The Dance Department of the Cultural Centre, University Malaya aims to advocate the study of traditional and contemporary dance through research and to elevate dance as an art form and cultural practice in Malaysia. UMa has performed in Penang, Kluang, Singapore, Indonesia, ASWARA’s Tari International Dance Festival, and the CMAP International Choreographers Festival in the Philippines.
