Pitch Start is a platform to submit project ideas, where successful applicants will be provided the funding and space to perform at the Yayasan Sime Darby Arts Festival grand finale attended by thousands in 2016. Submissions started in June and by the time it closed in August, we received 38 potential entries with great ideas that embodied the festival’s theme of Education + Future.
From 38, we narrowed it down to 8 groups to attend Pitch Start’s Live Pitch session on 19 September at klpac. These groups had to present their ideas to a panel of judges consisting of Datin Paduka Zaitoon Dato’ Othman, Pn. Yatela Zainal Abidin, Dato’ Faridah Merican, Joe Hasham OAM & U-En Ng.
At the end of the Live Pitch session, the judges deliberated and selected 2 groups to be the Pitch Start winners. Each group will receive a grant of RM 15,000 to execute their proposed ideas at the festival finale on 20 & 21 August 2016.
Bulan Separa Penuh is one of the winning ideas by CubeArt Stage & Performance. The theatre production will tell the story of two people’s dream to build a life in the performing arts but face strong objections from their families. Will they succumb to their families wishes or follow their dreams?
Another winning idea would be an audio visual showcase titled Paras Bunyi by the Paras Bunyi Collective. Set to be a funny immersive presentation of local sounds and imagery, festival-goers will be able to experience the immense talent of Malaysian visual artists and musicians.
We will be sharing more on the Pitch Start grant winners’ journey in, be sure to follow our social media channels for the last updates!
Thank you once again to all those who submitted their ideas for Pitch Start!
