The Whales On-The-Wheels Mobile Marine Education Nationwide Tour (WoW Tour) aims to make marine education accessible via a travelling exhibition that will tour the entire Peninsular Malaysia, and shape a civic-minded society that understands and appreciates our marine environment.

The travelling exhibition features a ‘Whale Truck’ – a vehicle decked out with various educational materials and exhibits exploring different marine topics. Visitors will be able to engage with MareCet’s highly experienced dolphin researchers and gain insights into marine mammal research and conservation work that the organization does in the country. The tour also includes a marine mammal gallery exhibit, display of preserved real-life marine specimens and a sustainability corner to raise awareness on marine pollution and single-use alternatives.

About the Artiste / Group

The MareCet Research Organization is the first and only non-profit NGO in Malaysia dedicated solely to the research and conservation of marine mammals in Malaysia. Established in 2012 and run by a small yet competent and passionate team of Malaysian researcher-conservationists, MareCet’s core focuses are increasing scientific knowledge through research, conservation-based outreach and education, strengthening policies, and developing local capacity for this field of work. As part of their outreach and education initiative, MareCet launched the Whales On-The-Wheels Mobile Marine Education Nationwide Tour (WoW Tour), which aims to make marine education accessible via a travelling exhibition that will tour the entire Peninsular Malaysia. Thus far, MareCet has visited Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, Perak, Penang, Kedah (including Langkawi Island), Perlis, Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang. The last stop, Selangor, will be visited in October 2023. The WoW Tour will be stationed at YSDAF 2023 for two days, in hopes to enhance ocean literacy and advocacy. The tour includes a marine mammal gallery exhibit, various interactive activities that convey the message of ocean research and conservation, and a sustainability corner to raise awareness on marine pollution and single-use alternatives.
