Deck 1
With flavours from our Motherland, Malaysia, Birdian Saxophone Ensemble fuses a few patriotic classics from the 80s along with an extraordinary medley of folk songs from the East Java of Indonesia, Penang’s Baba Nyonya heritage and the Malaccan Portuguese community. It is an invitation to travel through our own unique cultural identity through music. Amazed by our imaginative and talented local music arrangers and composers, come celebrate with us!
About the Artiste / Group
The Birdian Saxophone Quartet was founded in 2000 by saxophonist Ian Chan Wing Hang. Based in Kuala Lumpur, the quartet shares its passion by regularly performing wide-ranging repertoires of light classical, jazz standards, folk tunes, popular music for charity organisations, community events, band camps and festivals.
Besides exploring and performing a great wealth of musical treasure on standard classical and contemporary saxophone literature, the quartet also aims to promote interest in and appreciation of classical saxophone music amongst the general public. With the goal of educating and inspiring young students, the quartet conducts workshops for various school band camps and music festivals throughout Kuala Lumpur and the surrounding areas.
