Pemulung are scavengers in Indonesia that work in brutal and hazardous conditions scouring through waste to find anything that is worth selling.
Under the guidance of lecturers Mark Beau de Silva and Zhafir Muzani, TUTAS students present an all-new devised piece created for YSDAF 2023 based on marginalised people living off discards of society. Through their investigation, they found similar parallels in Sabah and other parts of Malaysia. The students combine original text, music and movement to present a story to highlight the hopes and dreams of the marginalised.
Performed in a mix of Mandarin, Bahasa Malaysia and English.
