If you’re in a band, have at least two original songs, want to perform in front of a huge audience, and want to win RM2,000, then you’ve come to the right place. The Yayasan Sime Darby Arts Festival (YSDAF) is hosting a Battle of the Bands this June to find one band to perform at the festival finale weekend on 18 & 19 August 2018 at The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (klpac). Join more than 450 artistes to celebrate the arts through music, theatre, arts & crafts, film, and dance.
All you have to do is submit one original song, and gather as many public votes as you can via our website. Those votes, together with the judges’ votes, will determine the Top 8 semi-finalist bands that will perform at the Battle of the Bands event on 29 & 30 June 2018 at Live Fact. Win that, and you’ll walk away with the RM2,000 Grand Prize and the privilege of being a YSDAF finale performer!
That’s not all! Members of the public will also have a part to play in crowning the Grand Prize winner, with the bands’ overall score residing in the hands of public voters and judges. Whether you’re selecting the Top 8 semi-finalist bands through a public online vote or casting your vote live during the Battle of the Bands show itself, you can proudly say you’ve been a part of something really momentous in YSDAF history!
I have a band, and I’d love to take part! How can I do so?

To take part, you must:

How does the Battle of the Bands work?
The Battle of the Bands consists of three phases:
Via an online submission at www.ysdartsfestival.com.my/botb. Bands will submit one original song to be judged by the YSDAF judges and to be voted by the public.
During the online open voting phase, bands will need to collect as many votes as they can to help them earn a spot in the Battle of the Bands. Besides the open voting, judges’ decisions will also impact the outcome of the results.
Battle of the Bands
The eight shortlisted semi-finalists will battle it out in front of a live audience on 29 & 30 June 2018 at Live Fact, Kota Damansara. A Grand Prize winner will then be selected to perform during the YSDAF finale weekend on 18 & 19 August 2018 at The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (klpac).
The Grand Prize winner will be announced on the night of 30 June 2018, at Live Fact. We will also be announcing the Grand Prize winner on our Facebook Page at www.facebook.com/ysdartsfest.
What happens during the voting period?
Alongside YSDAF judges, you’ll have the power to cast your vote for your favourite band(s) during the voting phase and the live performances during the Battle of the Bands event. Here’s how it works:
During the voting phase from 13 to 25 June, fans will vote for their favourite bands. You are allowed to cast ONE vote per day from 13 – 25 June (13 votes in total). The bands with the eight highest cumulative scores will participate in the Battle of the Bands event on 29 & 30 June, where they will perform in front of a live audience (that’s you!).
Here’s where it gets exciting: members of the audience of the Battle of the Bands event will be able to cast their votes live alongside the judges’ scores. The band with the highest cumulative score will be crowned the Grand Prize winner, and will walk away with RM2,000! What’s more, you’ll be seeing them perform live during the YSDAF finale weekend on 18 & 19 August 2018.
What’s the judging process and mechanism like?
There are two voting phases for the Battle of the Bands:
- A public online voting phase to determine the Top 8 semi-finalists from 13 to 25 June 2018.
- A live vote during the Battle of the Bands live event on 29 & 30 June 2018.
During the public online voting phase, fan votes will account for 40% of the bands’ total score; while fans’ live votes will account for 30% of the overall score during the Battle of the Bands event on 29 & 30 June 2018.
Who can attend the Battle of the Bands on 29 & 30 June 2018?
