TERMS & CONDITIONS

  1. The Festival and its Presenters, Sponsors and Organisers are not responsible for any faults in transmission or reception during the submission/uploading process.
  2. By entering the contest, participants acknowledge and have indicated that they are bound by these Terms and Conditions.
  3. The Festival and its Presenters, Sponsors and Organisers reserve the right to change these Terms and Conditions at any point of time, and reserve the right to have the final jurisdiction in the occurrence of any disputes.
  4. The Festival and its Presenters, Sponsors and Organisers reserve the right at any time in its absolute discretion and without prior notice to exclude a participant from any further participation in the contest.
  5. The Festival and its Presenters, Sponsors and Organisers are not liable for any injuries and mishaps during the live performance on 29 - 30 June 2018, as well as on the Festival Finale on 18 - 19 August 2018.
  6. The Judges' decision is final. The Festival and its Presenters, Sponsors and Organisers reserve their rights to make any changes and amendments to the terms and condition at any time.
  7. Winners will agree to appearing in publicity and marketing materials, as well as appearing for media interviews as needed and indicated by Yayasan Sime Darby Arts Festival.
  8. All songs performed at the Battle of the Bands and the Yayasan Sime Darby Arts Festival Finale should be copyright free.

PARTICIPATION

To be eligible to participate in the Battle of the Bands hosted by the Yayasan Sime Darby Arts Festival, you must:

  • Be residing in Malaysia
  • Own two (2) original songs, performed by your band
  • Agree to perform at our Battle of the Bands at Live Fact, Kota Damansara on 29 - 30 June 2018 from 8pm onwards, and at our Festival Finale at The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (klpac) on 18 - 19 August 2018.

GENERAL CONTEST MECHANICS

The #YSDAF2018 Battle of the Bands is made up of three phases:

  • Submission Phase: Via an online submission on www.ysdartsfestival.com.my/botb. Bands will submit one original song to be judged and voted by YSDAF judges and the public respectively.
  • Open Voting: During the open voting phase online, bands will need to collect as many votes as they can to help them earn a spot in the Battle of the Bands. Apart from voting, judges' decisions will also impact the outcome of the results. For the scoring weightage, please refer to the Submission and Battle of the Bands section below.
  • Battle of the Bands: The eight (8) shortlisted winners will battle it out in front of a live audience on 29 - 30 June 2018. A Grand Prize winner will be selected to perform at the #YSDAF2018 finale on 18 - 19 August 2018. The Grand Prize winner will be announced on the night of 30 June 2018, at Live Fact, Kota Damansara. We will also be announcing the Grand Prize winner on our Facebook Page at www.facebook.com/ysdartsfest.
PHASE 1

SUBMISSION

  1. Online submissions are open to the public from 21 May (12:00AM) - 8 June 2018 (11:59PM).
  2. In order to participate in the #YSDAF2018 Battle Of The Bands, all bands must submit one (1) original song via www.ysdartsfestival.com.my/botb.
  3. Each submitted song must be at least one minute long.
  4. Participants are required to upload their song either on SoundCloud or YouTube, and share the link to their original song on our submission platform.
  5. Any other format apart from SoundCloud or YouTube links are strictly not allowed.
  6. By submitting an entry, shortlisted participants must agree to:
    • Perform two (2) original songs - and, optionally, one (1) cover song - in front of a live audience on 29 - 30 June 2018.
  7. During the voting period online, participants will be up against each other by the following methods:
    • Judges' selection to comprise 60% of the overall score.
    • Online public votes to comprise 40% of the overall score.
    • The Top 8 bands with the highest cumulative score will make it to the Battle of the Bands event on 29 - 30 June 2018.
  8. Only eight (8) bands will be selected to perform at the Battle of the Bands on 29 - 30 June 2018. The selected shortlisted bands will be informed via email between 26th June 2018 and 28th June 2018 on their successful selection and allocated time slot.
PHASE 2

OPEN VOTING

  1. Once online submissions are closed, open voting will commence on our voting page on 13 June (12:00AM) - 25 June 2018 11:59PM (2018).
  2. The public are allowed to cast ONE vote per day from 13 - 25 June (13 votes in total). The system will refresh every 24 hours at 12:00AM. Once the system is refreshed, the public are allowed to vote again.
  3. The announcement on the eight selected bands will be made between 26 - 28 June 2018. Winners will be contacted via email. Eight winners will be selected to perform at the Battle of the Bands on 29 - 30 June 2018, from 8pm onwards.
PHASE 3

BATTLE OF THE BANDS

  1. Battle of the Bands (BOTB) will take place on 29 - 30 June 2018 at Live Fact, Kota Damansara. To view the venue's location, please click here.
  2. The eight (8) shortlisted participating bands will perform in front of a live audience.
  3. Each band must perform two (2) original songs and one (1) cover song of their choice (optional).
  4. On performance night, all shortlisted participating bands must be at the event venue by 7PM. Late arrivals will result in an immediate disqualification of entry.
  5. A standard back line will be provided at the BOTB event by the Venue Sponsor (Live Fact, Kota Damansara).
  6. The eight bands will be up against each other by the following methods:
    • Judges selection to comprise 70% of the overall score.
    • Live votes to comprise 30% of the overall score.
    • The band with the highest cumulative score will win the Grand Prize.
  7. Only one (1) Grand Prize winner will be selected and announced on the night of 30 June 2018.
  8. The Grand Prize winner must agree to perform at no additional cost at Yayasan Sime Darby Arts Festival Finale on 18 - 19 August 2018 at The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (klpac). An allocated time slot will be pre-informed to the winner at least one week prior to the Festival Finale Event.
