Beyond Moving with Artisans (BMoA) is the winner of YSDAF 2023’s Pitch Start grant for a new mixed medium work that best exemplifies YSDAF 2023’s theme and values.
Beyond Moving with Artisans (BMoA) is an interdisciplinary art project that combines traditional Malaysian crafts with dance to create a unique and immersive experience for the audience. The project showcases the oral history of traditional jobs and skills on the verge of extinction in Butterworth City, aiming to bridge the generation gap and foster intergenerational connections.
For YSDAF 2023, BMoA’s spotlight is on the pairing of Tau Sar Piah Biscuit baker x contemporary dance. They are blending modern elements and technology to enhance the audience’s experience while promoting inclusivity by involving underrepresented communities like refugees, artists who are disabled, and special needs teenagers.
The performance is a diverse and engaging 120-minute experience. It includes lecture performances, a Tau Sar Piah augmented reality workshop, a live biscuit-making session, dance performances with mixed reality, and an immersive journey through the Tau Sar Piah Workspace portal.
Their goal is to create an unforgettable, immersive experience that resonates with the festival’s theme “Shout It Out: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow,” where art, culture, and technology come together to celebrate our heritage and embrace the future.
