Ned Dickens
Storytelling Contest

Are you aged 19 and below, and a storytelling maestro? Do you want to win RM300? Leading up to the Yayasan Sime Darby Arts Festival finale weekend this 18 & 19 August 2018, we are looking for the most creative fans of Andi Miranti’s Ned Dickens Chronicles to recreate his stories in new and diverse formats!

ABOUT THE CONTEST

Open to participants 19 years old and below, the Ned Dickens Storytelling Contest will challenge participants’ creativity in creating new stories for Ned and his friends. Using various media such as videos, songs, storyboards, paper-cut outs, oil paintings, digital media, and more.

Participants must use any Ned Dickens character to re-create a story of their own. The story can be of any length and size, as long as it is a brand-new story told in a different medium apart from Andi’s comics and illustrations.

Andi himself will judge all submissions, and the Top 3 winners will walk away with RM300, RM200 and RM100 respectively. All of Andi’s decisions are final, and winners must collect their prize at the prize-giving ceremony at the #YSDAF finale weekend on 18 & 19 August 2018.

About the author

Andi Miranti is a young-at-heart Malaysian teen who loves drawing, reading, and playing video games. He was diagnosed with autism at the age of two, but that didn’t stop him from discovering his interests and passions.

From age eight to 15, Andi’s interest in drawing comic-strips grew. At 14, Andi announced that his latest creation, a comic character named Ned Dickens, was going to be a fully fledged comic book. Ned Dickens, a hand-drawn character inspired by Andi’s experiences with his family and friends, and many of the different books he’s read, remains an endearing persona to those who’ve picked up his book.

In 2014, Andi sold his first book at the Arts for Grabs bazaar when he was only 15. The event launched The Adventures of Blue-Smashin’ Ned Dickens (Part 1). Since then, Andi has published various books, and is now working on Part 2 of his Chronicles book. He is also developing interests in other areas of life: running, music (gamelan and Swedish metal), and science.
