How To Assist the Blind Workshop

Ever wondered how you can help people with visual impairment? This workshop will teach participants techniques on how to support and guide the blind. At the end of the session, students will demonstrate what they learnt by guiding fellow participants who will be blindfolded.

Heading the workshop is Wong Yoon Loong, who manages the Centre for Advocacy, Research & Empowerment at National Council for the Blind, Malaysia, and is also the vice president of the Malaysian Confederation of the Disabled. He has a Master’s Degree in Special Education from University of Malaya, and has vast experience working for the blind and people with disabilities in the fields of education, employment, ICT, accessibility, audio description, advocacy, empowerment and public awareness. In 2013, Yoon Loong and his wife were awarded the Takeo Iwahashi Award by the Nippon Lighthouse in recognition of their outstanding services for the blind and visually impaired in the Asia Pacific region.
