Mana-manalogues: Excerpts from Dato’ Seri & Kandang

This performance is inspired by two Malaysian adaptations of well-loved Western classics, Dato’ Seri and Kandang, which take on issues such as the class system, power, paranoia, freedom, politics, idealism, and tyranny. Excerpts from the two plays are woven together to shape a piece which reflects issues currently in the forefront of the Malaysian psyche.

Both excerpts were written, directed, and performed by Omar Ali. Earlier this year, he bagged the “Best Director (Theatre)” award at The 15th BOH Cameronian Arts Awards for Kandang. The production also won “Best Actor in a Leading Role”, “Best Costume Design”, and “Best of 2017”. Omar is currently a resident director at klpac.
