CocoNana Groovy String Improv
1.30 pm - 2.00 pm
Stage One (G2)
Strings meet jazz & rock – CocoNana is a string trio that will show you a new side of string instruments, full of improvisation & groovy percussions.
The founders of the group, Teetee Jay on viola, Jonathan Khor on violin & Aamil Sulaiman on cello will perform their own arrangements & compositions.
Inspired by predecessors such as Turtle Island String Quartet & Vitamin String Quartet, CocoNana will play all repertoire from various artists. This time at YSDAF 2025, they will feature Tee Jay’s new Polycorde bow which can produce the sound of an orchestra on a viola.
About the Artiste / Group
CocoNana Strings is a dynamic chamber string ensemble with a more rhythmic and spontaneous approach to chamber strings. Combining percussive techniques and jazz harmony, they strive to deliver powerful & engaging stage performances while maintaining artistic integrity.
They work with experimental instrumentations (string trio, with piano & drums, vocalists, and so on). They are able to improvise or jam with other musicians, or accompany singers on the spot if the situation arises.
After their formation in 2024, they have played for Malaysian Jazz Piano Festival 2024 and various wedding, festive & corporate functions.
