Stage One
#FestivalHighlight. Floating Islands by the Interior Architecture students of the Malaysian Institute of Arts (MIA) is a visual arts installation commissioned for YSDAF 2025.
Scattered Spaces, Shared Stories
Made from recycled plastic sheets, plastic strappings as well as scaffolding, these modular pavilions are scattered like islands across the park, serving as shelters and interactive spaces. Each pavilion stands on its own yet can converge with others to form a shared stage or communal area. Woven partitions create gentle boundaries, symbolising how individuals interweave to form a vibrant community.
Islands for Individuals, An Island for All.
Every island offers a comfort zone — a place to recharge from an overwhelming environment or simply relax. The public is also encouraged to interact with the installation by weaving loose pieces into designated patterns along the sides of the pavilions.
About the Artiste / Group
These Interior Architecture students from Malaysian Institute of Art build upon their experience of being involved in YSDAF 2023 and Kreatif KL Festival 2024 in this project, continuing their journey to design spaces that connect people.
