YSDAF 2023 presents “Lang [浪] x Lepak” by the award winning Orang-Orang Drum Theatre (OODT). This time around, OODT invites audiences to celebrate the universal sounds by inviting them to rayau (wander) and lepak (hang out), while enjoying their album “浪(lang4) x lepak”.

The word ‘orang’ means people, and the heart behind OODT is to bring the arts to the people. This performance which focuses mainly music without language also includes a Sarawakian folk song.

In OODT’s process of creation, sometimes they compose music for characters and in other times they find characters for the composed music, thus playing with two main elements – drumming and dance with mask.

About the Artiste / Group

Since its establishment in 2013, Orang Orang Drum Theatre’s core members Boyz Chew, Zyee Leow, and Damien Leow have been dancing between music, dance, and theatre, looking for a platform of expression for drum theatre. Forming a team of like-minded individuals, they have gone on to participate in the international music festival Sziget Festival 2019, WOMADELAIDE 2020, Venice theatre arts festival Venice Open Stage, and Belgium and Germany dance festival Danse en Ville. In recent years, they have brought their troupe to tour at many cultural and dance arts festivals in Europe such as in France, Hungary and Serbia. Most recently, they performed at Rainforest World Music Festival 2023 and George Town Festival 2023. Through interactions with traditional cultures, they reflect and develop more possibilities in their creations.
